CENTROS is an overlay of striking visuals onto lo-res screens to create an immersive experience for both the audience and artists on stage.
The first Iregular project at Mutek MX, it was commissioned by the festival director Damian Romero in 2013. CENTROS was to be the visual centrepiece of the big Plaza Condesa venue. To create the scenography, we designed a 15m×15m wooden grid with independently controlled RGB lights mapped to a video source. The visuals that are projected on the grid surface were created by Baillat Cardell & fils and Diagraf.
CENTROS represents a resourceful way to create an impactful immersive experience in a massive venue while respecting setting and budget constraints. With the right vision, “going big” is possible regardless of the restrictive mediums at hand.
